Friends giving Prep Ideas
This year you can switch it up. If you are more traditional and only have family in town for thanksgiving, we suggest having a friends giving too! With the separation of friends and family the past two years due to environmental factors, it’s important to connect with your closest friends as well. We have listed below three easy suggestions on how to make your Friends giving seamless.
Turkey goes to the host
Unless you’re some sort of superhuman cooking genius who finds cooking two epic feasts a fun endeavor, we wouldn’t recommend taking on the entire Friends giving meal yourself. What you can do is the turkey. It is a big job in itself and the star of the feast. The USDA says 1 lb per person (or bigger if you’re looking to have leftovers). Don’t forget to give yourself time to thaw the turkey if it’s going to be frozen (24 hours for every 4 to 5 lbs). There are also some gourmet groceries that will roast a turkey and deliver it to you if you don’t feel like taking on such an enormous task.
Side dishes go to the guests!
This one is easy, ask your friends to bring their favorite Thanksgiving dish or something unique to their own traditions. It’s much easier for guests to bring over a casserole than a giant turkey. It also gives everyone a sense of purpose and ability to contribute. Plus, who doesn’t want to try new foods with friends?!
Booze Cruise
Don’t forget the drinks! You can advertise as BYOB, or BYOW (bring your own wine), but it’s always nice to have some to spare in case someone forgets or runs out of time to grab some. Although we say don’t forget the drinks, we don’t mean just alcoholic drinks. There are plenty of people out there that don’t and they would feel special if you made maybe a homemade lemonade or some sort so they can feel fancy too.
In all, Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude and spending time with family and friends. Hosting a friends giving brings people together. You can also do crafts together, you don’t necessarily have to do food but the important part is giving thanks and support to one another for the holidays and remembering good times with the ones you love.
